Best Time to Visit Tanzania: A Complete Month-by-Month Guide

January 15, 2026 8 min readBy Wild Host Team

Tanzania is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit depends on what you want to see. Here's our complete guide to Tanzania's seasons.

Tanzania is a year-round safari destination, but the experience changes dramatically with the seasons. Understanding the seasonal patterns will help you choose the perfect time for your safari.

The Dry Season (June to October) is the most popular time for safaris. Wildlife concentrates around water sources, vegetation is sparse making animals easier to spot, and the weather is pleasant with low humidity. This is also the best time to see the Great Migration river crossings in the northern Serengeti.

The Green Season (November to May) offers lush landscapes, fewer tourists, and lower prices. January to March is the calving season in the southern Serengeti, when millions of wildebeest give birth — a dramatic time as predators follow the herds. April and May are the long rains and some lodges close.

For Kilimanjaro, the best months are January to March and June to October. January to March is colder but clearer, while June to October is warmer and busier.

For Zanzibar, June to October and December to February offer the best weather with low rainfall and pleasant temperatures. Avoid April and May if you want beach days.
