Question 1

What is the best time to go on safari in Tanzania?

Accepted Answer

The best time for a safari is during the dry season from June to October. Wildlife concentrates around water sources, making animals easier to spot. For the Great Migration river crossings, visit July to October. For calving season, visit January to March. Tanzania is a year-round destination, but April and May have heavy rains.

Question 2

Do I need a visa to visit Tanzania?

Accepted Answer

Most nationalities need a visa. You can get an e-visa online before travel ($50 for single entry) or a visa on arrival at major airports. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months. Some nationalities require a yellow fever vaccination certificate if arriving from an endemic country.

Question 3

Is Tanzania safe for tourists?

Accepted Answer

Tanzania is one of the safest countries in East Africa for tourists. The people are friendly and welcoming. As with any travel, take normal precautions with valuables. On safari, always follow your guide's instructions. Our team monitors your safety throughout your trip.

Question 4

What should I pack for a safari?

Accepted Answer

Pack neutral-colored clothing (khaki, olive, brown), a warm jacket for early morning game drives, comfortable closed shoes, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and insect repellent. For evenings, smart-casual attire is appropriate. Don't forget binoculars and a camera!

Question 5

What vaccinations do I need?

Accepted Answer

A yellow fever vaccination is required if arriving from an endemic country. We recommend being up to date on routine vaccinations, plus hepatitis A, typhoid, and tetanus. If visiting areas below 1,800m, consider anti-malarial medication. Consult your doctor 4-6 weeks before travel.

Question 6

What currency should I use?

Accepted Answer

The local currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS), but US dollars are widely accepted at lodges and for tips. Bring USD in bills dated 2006 or newer. Credit cards are accepted at most lodges but may incur a surcharge. ATMs are available in Arusha and major towns.

Question 7

How much should I tip?

Accepted Answer

Tipping is customary but not mandatory. A general guideline is $15-20 per day for your safari guide and $10-15 per day for the camp staff (shared among the team). For Kilimanjaro, tipping is typically $20-30 per day for the guide and $10-15 per day for each porter.

Question 8

Question 9

What is the accommodation like?

Accepted Answer

We offer three levels: budget (public campsites, basic lodges), mid-range (comfortable lodges and tented camps with private facilities), and luxury (high-end lodges and luxury tented camps with premium amenities). All accommodations we use are clean, safe, and well-reviewed.

Question 10

How far in advance should I book?

Accepted Answer

We recommend booking 3-6 months in advance for the best availability, especially for peak season (June to October). For last-minute bookings, we'll do our best to accommodate you, but accommodation choices may be limited.

Question 11

What is the Great Migration?

Accepted Answer

The Great Migration is the annual movement of over 1.5 million wildebeest, plus zebras and gazelles, across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. The herds follow the rains in a roughly circular pattern. The most dramatic moments are the river crossings (July to October) and calving season (January to March).

Question 12

Are children welcome on safari?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Tanzania is a wonderful destination for families. We design family itineraries with shorter drives, family-friendly lodges with pools, and activities that engage children. Some lodges have age restrictions for walking safaris, but game drives are suitable for all ages.
