Tanzania has two main safari circuits. Here's how to choose between the Northern and Southern Circuit.
Tanzania has two main safari circuits: the Northern Circuit and the Southern Circuit. Each offers a different experience.
The Northern Circuit includes Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara. It's the most popular circuit with the highest wildlife density, the Great Migration, and well-developed infrastructure. It's ideal for first-time visitors.
The Southern Circuit includes Ruaha and Nyerere (formerly Selous). It's remote, wild, and uncrowded. You'll see fewer vehicles and can do walking and boat safaris. It's ideal for experienced safari-goers seeking something different.
If you have 7 days or less, choose the Northern Circuit. If you have 10+ days, consider combining both circuits for the ultimate Tanzania experience.
The Northern Circuit is accessible by road from Arusha. The Southern Circuit requires bush flights, which adds to the cost but offers stunning aerial views.
